The Artist

My love of tile started with a small shelf I tiled in my bathroom and blossomed into an art form that I truly enjoy.

Meet Carrie Green, Mosaic Artist & Designer.

I taught myself how to lay tile by reading a book and experimenting in my basement studio. My first tile adventure was a shelf I tiled in my bathroom and every project since that has been an original mosaic creation. One of my favorite hobbies is assembling puzzles, and mosaicing is like creating my own special puzzle every time. To receive more formal training, I attended a 2-day Introduction to Mosaics class with Gina Hubler of MosaicTools.com.

Almost everything utilized in my mosaic creations is recycled material. I shop for tiles at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store and local flooring companies that sell discontinued or salvaged tile by the piece. I love the thrill of the hunt and I’m ecstatic when I stumble across a beautiful vintage table or a dusty box of fire-engine-red ceramic tile. The table frames are one-of-a-kind items purchased at yard sales and flea markets. In the end, the pieces that result from this process often are antique tables topped with antique tiles!

Thank you for your interest in my unique creations and Moongate Mosaics.
